Join Musique & Masque for an evening of unconventional performances at our community-building and fundraising cabaret!
Behind the Masque: Singing the Unsung is our chance to break free from our usual stage roles and celebrate the depth and variety of talent within our company.
We’re encouraging all company members—new and old—to submit acts that showcase the voices and material you rarely get to perform. Sing something from a show that would never hit the Miller Center stage. Or from a role that is usually played by a different gender or a different type of performer! We want to hear those unsung songs that, until now, you only belt in the shower!
———
Also, as an exciting bonus, the Musique & Masque artistic staff will be announcing our fall musical selection at the conclusion of the performance!
(And there may be some hints hidden along the way.)
When: February 7th | Hangout at 3pm | Performance at 4pm
Where: Fellowship Hall on the ground floor of Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church
1980 Dahlia St
Denver, CO
What: Small bites, libations, celebrations, with a few songs mixed in
Who: All Musique & Masque Company Members — new and old, young and young-at-heart. Kids, spouses, family, and friends are all welcome.
Why: To celebrate our company and show off those songs that Jean never expected us to sing!
Our goal is to showcase as many performers as possible at this event. And this is the time to dust off that song from that musical that nobody’s heard of. Or bring a song that’s written to be performed by a different gender. Or that song from that musical you REALLY like. Or that number that you and your friends have always wanted to perform!
Duets and group numbers are strongly encouraged – it’s always more fun performing with a friend!
We trust you to pick a song or number to perform that fits our theme of “Singing the Unsung” and showcases your best self!
In addition, all acts should be:
Fully memorized and rehearsed at the time of submission (we’ll ask you to perform the whole thing in person or virtually)
No longer than (about) five minutes
Have no technical requirements beyond a piano, a microphone, and a stage (because that’s all we’ve got!)
Able to arrive at Montview on our performance date (February 7th) by 3:30pm — that’s 30 minutes before showtime.
There are TWO ways to submit your act: in person OR virtually.
In person sign-ups will take place at Montview on January 31st between 2pm to 4pm.
(You'll sign up for a 15 minute time slot –you won't have to be there the whole time)
We will provide a pianist to accompany your wonderful and daring act!
Here’s what you should bring…
…yourself and everyone else involved in your act.
…your printed and clearly-marked sheet music. (We’ll need to keep this copy.)
…any other materials/instruments you might need for your act.
Use the sign-up form to pick a time slot and enter your other information. Swing by Montview to show off your slick and neat-o performance to some members of our artistic team and, BANG, you’re done!
Can’t make it to the in-person act submissions? Submit a recording of yourself instead!
Use the sign-up form to complete your virtual submission. You’ll be asked to prepare and submit a video recording of your entire act.
Here’s some things to keep in mind…
Virtual submissions will be asked to submit a “backing track” that they will use during the final performance. (YouTube videos work great – add “karaoke” to whatever song you’re searching for.)
Record this act submission video like you’re actually performing on stage. (Well rehearsed, start-to-finish, etc.)
You’ll have to figure out how to record and upload your video into the form on your own. M&M doesn’t have an IT department (yet!) so we can’t really help with any video recording or uploading questions.
❗ Important Note:
We want everyone to be able to submit whatever “unsung” act they’d like to! If you have questions about your act, the submission process, or anything at all, please email tommy@tommynolan.net
Think your act might be weird, or not the right fit, or too daring — bring it anyway! We’d love to see it! (And we bet it’s better than you think…)
Q: When is the submission deadline?
A: All acts must be submitted using the sign-up form by January 31, 2026.
Q: I can’t attend the in person submission date – will there be other dates?
A: Unfortunately, no. We encourage you to pursue a virtual submission instead!
Q: If I submit an act, is it automatically in the show?
A: Probably. Our goal is to accept as many acts as possible. In the unlikely event that we receive more acts than fit into our allotted performance time, we may have to limit the number of performances.
Q: When will I know when I perform during the show?
A: We will send out emails to all acts by February 4th.
Q: Can I submit a virtual act if I want to perform with the accompanist?
A: No. If you submit virtually, your performance will use the same audio backing track that you submitted with. If you would like to perform with the accompanist, you must attend in person act submissions..
Q: How polished and rehearsed should my submission be?
A: We hope that each submission is as “performance ready” as possible. Since there are no rehearsals scheduled for this event, act submissions should be complete and ready for the stage.
Q: Will there be a microphone?
A: We will have one standard stand microphone for the performance.

The Sound of Music: September 11-14, 2025
In September 2025 Musique & Masque performed one of the most beloved musical from Rodgers & Hammerstein, 'The Sound of Music'. The audiences were delighted to hear treasured songs such as, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and of course the title number.
Erin Pettit, Artistic and Musical Director says, the real magic of this production is the transformations that happen, the bonds made when creating art with others, the memories we create for ourselves and the audiene, and the story we tell to the world in celebration of all we learned together.
Thanks to everyone who was a part of this production - staff, cast, crew, musicians, volunteers, parents, family & friends. We couldn't do it without your support.
